French Speeding Ticket

Got clocked doing 104kph in a 90kph in the Calais area on the way to the tunnel and after a WW1 jolly to the Somme, which was very enjoyable.

I do remember the trap being flagged by Waze but for some stupid reason I thought I was still in a 110 limit but didn't observe a flash - I messed up! Offence took place on the 21st July and the ticket arrived today (31st).

Anyway, the fine was 45 Euro (if paid up within 4 weeks) and so I paid up.

the entire country ,so the bloke in the dark room developing the film hasn't got much else to do.

They've cracked down massively and in particular around Calais. I was done for 98 I suspect by the same camera.

Here's the details, looks like I was going much faster but they must have done the minus 5% thingy

Your vehicle was checked at 110 km/h (this checks out correct because I thought it to be a 110 limit)
For an authorised speed limit of 90 km/h
The speed used is 104 km/h

Ive just come back from south west France and I must admit I lost count of the burnt out cameras I saw

My brother in law who was with us did however get flashed on the way back to Roscoff

I’m not sure if the French have the sane zeal against drivers of Irish reg cars though .. we will see shortly

Snap, same camera! (30/7) notice arrived today.

There was a diversion off the ferry on to the A16, lost track of where we were, limit must have dropped to 90.

I'm waiting for Postman Pat to bring me mine too.

For a moment I'd forgotten the limit has been dropped from 90 to 80 on rural roads and got flashed at about 90 near Bordeaux last week.

I believe in a previous thread, about German fines, 'agtlaw' stated that he has dealt with cases for clients that have.

We have for the past few years had a rule of sticking to the speed limits north of Paris. So far it's always stood us in good stead. South of Paris you can go fast and rely on Waze. North, play it safe.

Not worth the risk IMO.
I coughed up 90 euros for doing 117kph (rounded down) in a 70. No idea where the camera was, I had Waze on the whole time and I certainly wasn't speeding through towns or roadworks. 3kph more and it would have been an over 1k fine!

Depending where you were it could have been a hiddden camera so not visible to Waze users. I was done by a car with "hidden" camera parked just outside someones driveway on the N21 just where a 70km/h changes to 50 km/h. On the ticket it will give the GPS co-ordinates of where you were caught and using this I went back and had a look and sure enough it was there again, no driver in the car just parked there clocking up contraveners.

Given the current French predilection for firebombing speed cameras, it seems a bit rash handing out GPS coordinates for unattended vehicles.

Unfortunately not!! Didn't even think of it at the time as this was 2 years ago and way before the GJs, also, you never know there may have been plod hiding somewhere nearby. Nowadays if anyone with GJ sympathy might well do something drastic.

So the accuracy of the device was last checked on 04/10/2018 - 9 months before you were 'caught'.
