Waste recycling lorry hit parked car and drove off

Am in the office, just had a call from the wife, our family car has had the entire side of it smashed up. There are builders on our road who witnessed it hit our car and drive off, they didnt get the number plate only the name of the company. I called our council and it isn't one of theirs, the description the builders gave my wife point at a waste recycling company in Birmingham (we are in SW London).
The builders said they hit the car, then panicked and just drove off so clearly a hit and run, they didn't (as far as I know) get the number plate.
When I rang the council they confirmed it wasnt one of their contractors, but they did get me a number and searching online has got me the company. Next steps? I presume I have to record the hit with the police. What about getting this company to pay up, we have independent witnesses that saw a van with their logo and company name on it?

1. The builders didnt see it, they heard a crash, ran outside, saw a skip lorry outside they approached him who said it wasn't him it was the recycling lorry which was exiting off the top of the road
2. They got the skip lorries number plate, they took a photo, they also got the company name (important)
3. Was looking over the car and a neighbour who lives next to where it was parked came out with her phone linked to her DOORBELL CAMERA which shows the skip lorry hitting the car and driving off
So now calling our insurers to report it and pass on the details and video.

t. That's why insurance is paid, ffs. Yes, and it appears from the footage that one set of builders were trying to cover for him, I am not even sure that conversation happened.
There are two sets of builders on the road, the skip lorry on the way down hits our car, on the video now I have seen extended footage shows the builders who called in the lorry see it happen, crowd around the car, then walk off. So they clearly saw it happen.
As the skip lorry left the road it hit the van of the other set of builders who stopped it and got the details (unaware the lorry had hit our car earlier). Thats where we have got the lorry details from i.e. company name, driver name, reg number etc.
The builders who called in the skip lorry, told us they spoke to him and he said it was the recycling lorry - so I think the pair of them conspired - it was only the video footage that has shown this has to be bullst.
And builders wonder why they have a reputation as being untrustworthy, bunch of wkers this lot. fking blatant, I wouldnt mind but we have to put up with weeks of noise and dust and their vans blocking the road and thats what we get back. Utter scum.

Well lets see, I have the receipt with date and time of the skip driver picking up the skip, which coincides with the video footage of the accident, a separate builder witness report (the truck also hit their van!) as well as clear video footage of the skip driver hitting our car, a loud crash, the car jolts to the side. I had a double decker bus go into the back of my (real kwits to argue the damage their monkeys cause to the point your ins co just gives up 
) Mini going round the Elephant & Castle a good few years ago. I pulled over, but he drove off and surprisingly enough, none of the other bus drivers saw anything. Tried calling the bus company, but as I had no reg number I got nowhere.

We have the Ring 1, I think its fine, lots of people complain about the wifi signal, we don't really have an issue as I already had an AP in the garden for our other cameras.

Yes a doorbell, mounted next to the door. It is motion activated, the footage is stored in HD on the cloud and can be accessed via a mobile device. So it doesnt have to be rung to capture footage i.e. someone breaking in isn't going to ring the doorbell first!coldel said:

Their vehicle will be patched up, the driver making no admission of the incident. I was at a storage depot and saw some builders in their van clip a grey BMW X4, leaving it with red marks from their tail lift. They just shrugged their shoulders and drove off. Only thing you can get from police is a crime number, I doubt they can pursue it with no index number of the offending vehicle.
I don't think you'll get anywhere with this.
Few years back a council recycling truck hit a neighbours parked car. There was a witness, and the paint (white and green truck against a blue Mini) was clear.
They called the council, with witness details asking who to speak to about a claim/insurance details. Went on for a few days, then our neighbour gets a call from someone saying if they don't stop pestering the traffic office that they'll be reported for harassment and intimidation. Still no insurance details divulged.
They called once more and also wrote a letter in. In the meantime they called their own insurance company, to which the advisor was really helpful but did say that the chance of a successful claim was pretty much nil and the time it would take for a £300 repair just wasn't worth it.
2 weeks later they get a solicitors letter from the council stating that any further correspondence about the "incident" would result in legal action for intimidation.
They ended up just having to put up with the £300 repair. I've since heard that it's the same with minor incidents with public buses.
Totally weighted against the public.
