Car to van insurance & moving my NCD around, bit confused...

I currently have 14 years NCD on my car insurance policy. I've bought a van this morning which I'm collecting next Saturday. I've had a quote for the van as my current insurer doesn't insure vans. The new insurance will take car NCD into account for van insurance.

Am I correct that I now need to ring my car insurance company and tell them I'm switching my NCD over to a new company from next Saturday (obviously my policy will go up) or will I have to cancel the policy all together?

I need insurance on the car for a while longer whilst I sell it, that could be a sticking point for me i guess?

I didn't tell my insurance when I bought a van, the NCD was mirrored onto both policies.

I did when I bought a second car, I transfered the policy onto the new car, and paid for a new policy on the old car. Going from 9+ years NCD to a new policy with zero no claims was £16 more...
