Number plate fine by post!

Had an adhesive plate on the bottom of air intake area on my tvr cerbera and was not standard sizing
I guess its understandable i got a ticket for it (in post)
But i would really like to know for sure if an adhesive front plate would be legal for a car like a tvr- if mounted on bonnet, reflective material and correct font and letter size...
I cannot find a definitive answer and am still waiting for a reply from dvla

Then what about cars that do routinely use adhesive plates..? Are they all illegal too? Classics and caterhams etc

Any non compliant plate is illegal.

I may be misunderstanding, but the bold bit reads as though you're wondering if the rules might be different for a TVR?

But i cant understand therefore why a classic can have an adhesive plate and a modern not?
If illegal for all cars why arent etypes getting stopped?

They are required to be legible, but as an adhesive plate was lawful on an e-type when new (for example) it does not now have to be changed for a modern, font size flat vertical etc

i didn't say all vehicles plates had to comply with standard 'd', but they will have to be compliant with the relevant regs for their year.

Yep. For 60s (maybe even early 70s?) cars there was something more like 'a rectangular area' specified for the plate, rather than a very specific regulation for how flexible the material can be etc, etc.
