Did I get caught ? (Pic) 56/50 indicated

56 on the dash, Waze claims 56 is 54 GPS speed,

First lined up with it in pic 1, slammed my brakes on in pic 2.





The red car braked a lot later than me. Presume they target outside lane though....

Probably ok - my mrs got done at 58 , which I guess is lowest speed after the 10%+2 guideline.

10% + 2 is the lowest speed at which you can be prosecuted. 10% + 1 is the so-called safe speed.

I'd not be too worried about that, but your observation about targetting the outside lane may be true, so perhaps use the nearside one when you can?

When I used to work in the courts, I was speaking to a van operator once and he said he gave three seconds for a driver to adjust their speed as long as they weren't taking the micky. It was to help with drivers not slamming on their brakes but tbf i think any driver does it as soon as they see a speed camera van.

Annoyingly I favoured the Mercedes sat nav for this journey there was another camera later on too funnily enough,

When relatively minor speed transgressions are policed quite harshly (relative to, say tailgating or not returning to the left lane which get virtually no enforcement), the safety partnership system does tend to result in that behaviour unfortunately.

I wasn't aware of an informal 3 second rule (so don't see how that would help avoid brake slamming behaviour) but does seem sensible and probably explains why i've never had a ticket from a van.

It was quite good observation on the OP's part..I couldn't make anything out on the first pic, though I suppose a wide angle dashcam is not designed for long range focus.

Yeah I think the camera hides it, by the time I braked I was definitely in range.

It's an involuntary reaction to brake. See camera, look at Speedo, brake.

More annoying is they're prolific on this road and I'm usually super careful. Early morning drive false sense of security.

I just hope I was still gently accelerating (this is just after a roundabout) and not decelerating as it could mean my speed was higher than my dash read out.

I think you would be very unlucky to get an NIP in the scenario described.

I too use Waze,but have had 3 x 2 week waits in the last year. On each occasion I noticed the van at the first possible opportunity and was back within the speed limit quickly. I still have a clean license...
