Interesting story on bbc news website, apparently VW don't want to settle claims against them from their own domestic market. Considering the grief VAG owners here get with all sorts of excuses to avoid claims, etc it isn't just us in the UK that get shafted..

VW are not settling this mass case but have settled many individual cases with NDAs during last few months.
My friend is a lawyer in Germany who is now specialising in this and has around 50 private settlements so far. (Updated, 107 so far)
Clients are getting purchase price (what they actually paid and not list) plus 50%. Allegedly
He’s also started several private cases against Mercedes re Vito vans.

I wonder how that level of settlement is reached. My the engine in my 350 SLK stopped working due to a known fault, this at about 65k. I lost about £7,000. Mercedes were very helpful in telling me they did not want to know immediately.
It was the balance shaft sprocket, made of sintered metal to save a couple of pence. And people moan at TVR.

Perhaps he doesn't want to be a lawyer any more.
He is a bit of a maverick lawyer and is know locally as the one man army.
A regular pita to many large companies.

Hole towns relay on VW and Pension Investment funds hence why VW have been more or less immune from prosecution.
They go after a few of the staff, but VW must stand or it will hurt the Germans big style.

I believe the reported offer was for VW to purchase the cars back at purchase price + 50% in full a settlement to negate any further action, so the car would be returned to VW not left with the customer to sell onWould a fine of €85bn scupper VAG?

They only paid $15bn in the US law suit.
I think that level of fine would see an end to Audi, VW, Porsche, Seat, Škoda, Bentley, Bugatti, Lamborghini, Porsche, Ducati etc.
No great loss eh?

I trust you read all the terms and conditions imposed by Slater and Gordon before signing up? There were certain circumstances where you could end up being liable for legal costs! I'm one of the UK class action members. 2012 Audi A3 2.0tdi.

IMO, this lawsuit won't go anywhere. VAG bring too much money into all European economies through both manufacturing and sales.

There lie the issue, VAG have been allowed to buy all those brands and are so bl**dy big, that coupled with the Krauts being the biggest payers after us inot the EU means they seem immune to any real sanctions in light of this corporate deception that has no doubt damaged the environment and I belief shorted millions of peoples lives.IMO, this lawsuit won't go anywhere. I point bank refuse to order a new vehicle from any of these brands now! I had Audi's before and got treated like crap by their service department as well.
