Confused over backless booster cushions

I cannot fathom out what is or isn't legal for my two grandkids

One is 7 and well over 1m and weighs over 5 stone 35 kg

the other is 6 and over 1m and weighs in about 30kg

We had the isofix full seats ,but changed these to the backless cushion type as they were growing out od the other one

However reading the >gov site i cannot make out if these are legal ( as in them using them) or not

Any experts out there can explain it in laymans terms?

According to Gov website it states:

Child’s weight 22kg to 36kg is Group 3
Seats: Rear- or forward-facing child car seat (high-backed booster seat or booster cushion) using a seat belt, harness or safety shield

Any already bought are legal to use (but not recommended for smaller/lighter children requiring a 'group 2' seat) . The ban is predominantly on the sale of new product approved to group 2 (which is mainly products which attempt to cover multiple age/weight ranges)

Fine for group 3 use.

Having said that, my son is nearly 10 and is probably knocking on 6 stone (size 5 adult shoes too), and he's still using a high back booster. Anything without side wings and a back offers zero additional side impact protection.
