I feel like I'm on a one-man crusade against Amazon this week!

Per my last thread, I had an incident where (presumably) the Amazon driver ripped off a high value item. Amazon refunded me, but have put my account on 'special measures' as a result.

Today my credit card bill arrived, and I found that I have been charged for £720 worth of items that I ordered two weeks ago, but are currently out of stock.

I no longer want to order high value items from Amazon, so need to cancel the order.

I phoned them about it and was told that their 'new policy' is to pre-approve the charge upon order, but then to actually charge the card after five days, even if there are no plans to dispatch the item. I have this in writing as well.

Has this happened to anyone else? The charge was made before the incident that has put my account into special measures, so I doubt they are singling me out.

Perhaps it’s not an issue, but Amazons stated policy has always been that they only charge on dispatch of an item, and I didn’t know that had changed.

In reality, I’m not sure it really has changed, because I’ve just clicked on the ‘invoice’ tab for the order, and it tells me no invoice is available because I haven’t been charged yet!

I just want to make sure the cash will definitely be refunded if I cancel the order.

You have credit card protection.
