50 in a 30 - how long will the ban be

Not me...... naturally, Mrs Grumpy has been nicked by a scamera van at 50 in a 30 (silly cow), and is awaiting her day in court. We reckon she'll get between 7 and 28 days ban. Anyone been nicked for the same speed ? What did you get?

To be fair, she deserves everything she gets, and acknowledges the fact. The van hides behind a big hedge on a sweeping left hand bend, and I'm sure it gets dozens of speeders as it sits just on the edge of the 30 zone catching drivers exiting the village just before the NSL sign. The same village has a steep hill exiting the village the other way and the same van hides from view behind a load of trees, nicking those who haven't been dabbing their brakes the whole way down the hill.

My boss was done for 51 in a 30 last August.. Fine (means tested I think, just under 4 figures) and 6 points when she attended court for it in January. No ban.

She took the opportunity (when given) to go to court to "plead" or whatever. Apologised etc...

What's her licence like at the moment?

From previous experience I don't think she'll get a ban but six points (maybe five on a good day!) and a fine based on income.

If it goes to court (can be chosen on summons), it all depends on magistrates. Means tested fine and points, but if already at 6 points, a ban for between 7 days and 6 months. The 'hardship' they have all heard before.

My line manager's daughter got snapped at 53 in a 30.

Went to court in her best frock, said how sorry she was and walked out with 6 points and a lumpy fine.

I thought you had to be speed limit x 2 or > 100 on a motorway to get banned?

I'd rather have a 14 day ban personally!!

How badly does a ban affect insurance premiums? That would be my concern.

My son was snapped at 85 in a 30. He got a 28 day ban and about a £380 fine. Oddly didn't seem to make a lot of difference to his insurance (25 years old in a 330ci).

51 in a 30. 6 points and £600 fine for me. 2 years ago.

It didn’t change my insurance premium at all actually. Still went down at renewal and I’m paying less than I ever have.

if your worried about a ban or a short ban would have serious implications engage legal services at the earliest opportunity,

let them deal with it all and do nothing but what they tell you when they tell you

good lawyer will have everythign arranged and lined up before you hit the court deals can and will be done

Why? May be the middle of the night or one of these roads where lefty s have cut the limit to something completely inappropriate that everyone will break anyway. But no, apparently any speeding transgression on here should be punishable by hanging.

Fair enough; push the limits a bit, but 85 in a 30 is flagrant disregard.
