Moped Vigilantes

Been watching some footage with brazen moped gangs attacking jewellers and mobile phone shops in broad daylight, honestly makes my blood boil. Notice their choice of weapons are hammers and machetes so understandably I get why shop assistants won’t fight back and probably aren’t allowed to anyway or would want to given their pay level.
Similarly get why the public majority would rather stand back and record then intervene.. but there’s a part of me that that would want to jump right in and knock them off their bikes - I would happily ram them off their mopeds if I was on the road - and given how most of them seem to be s
te bags when confronted, I imagine they would flee rather than fight.
So question, what would you do?

I am aware of a situation where someone who looked remarkably like a younger version of me saw a thief running away from a policeman. The thief had the legs on the policeman so the handsome young fellow took them out with a rather aggressive rugby tackle on a paved street.
The policeman was thankful for the assistance but seeing that the "promising young footballer" was now somewhat less handsome for the tumble, sent the concerned member of the public away without taking any details.
I'd imagine in the situation where you park your car on top of the perp then it's a little harder for a policeman to just send you on your way, and you would be opening yourself up to a lot of pain in defending your actions in court, and being sued by the family of the promising young footballer. Not to mention finding yourself at the receiving end of the scumbag's misguided brethren's anger at the misjustice of actions having consequences.

Indeed a friend once assisted slowing down a scrote by tripping him as he attempted to flee the police. He was thanked and then told to head on home without identifying himself to the policemans colleague. I was in Dubai last month for a few weeks. took the Mrs to the Gold Souk shopping. Shops with millions in gold in them, nobody had heavy duty security, maybe some CCTV but generally you were free to walk in & out of shops, look at stuff whilst the served other customers etc. Why? they don't need it because they know how to deal with thieves.
The UK is too soft and the risk/reward biased towards the thief. Employ Muhammad Saad Al-Beshi to chop a few limbs off & all the aspiring architects & footballers will soon get the message

You ram one moped and the rider(s) take a tumble. The others surround your car waving hammers and machetes. I don’t think the others would surround you, they’d be too busy legging it. Worst case just reverse and do it again! I don’t live in London but if I did, I’d be tempted to organise a day of moped bashing...

You're in good company here on PH, then, where it would seem most would be quite happy living in an authoritarian, fascist police state, but one puzzlingly where this doesn't extend to the rules on the road (apart from for cyclists).The UK is too soft and the risk/reward biased towards the thief. Yes, I often look at the Middle East states and wish we had governments like theirs.

I live in Germany, in Düsseldorf, loads of expensive shops without much obvious security, fairly soft liberal treatment of crims, loads of forrin types of course, Merkel let them all in, innit. When I was living in Hong Kong in the 1980's there were a number of jewellery stores who employed massive Sikhs, complete with turbans that made them look even bigger. They would stand at the doorway with a sabre in hand and vet customers. No thefts there.DesertPatrol said:

If you did manage to knock one off a moped, the others would most certainly turn round and come back at you with machetes, and once they had finished hacking at you with blades and stabbing you with screwdrivers, the one you knocked off would hop onto the back of one of the other bikes and they would all ride off.
It would all be over in 30 seconds, but for you, your trip to hospital will only just be starting.
As for the initial question, I would do the same as TwigtheWonderKid and run away.
My personal safety is more important that whatever possessions or objects are being stolen.
I am of less use to my family if I am dead or injured.
