French Speeding fines

Back in August I spent a couple of weeks in France. Knowing they have difficult to spot cameras I used cruise control all the time. Imagine my surprise when I got an invoice from the rental company saying they had passed my details on.
The only time I think I was caught out was a very small section of motorway where the limit dropped for what seemed like 100m and went back up. If that’s the spot, or indeed any other place I slipped up, I don’t mind paying the fine.
But, I haven’t received one. The slight complication to this is that I’m in the US. It looks like I have “got away” for now. The question is, will I face problems when I go back into France next year? Do they track these things locally?

The Oz police managed to track me down in NZ, despite me using a UK driving licence.
Like the OP, I have no idea where it was as I was being careful.
I treated it like a scam and chucked it in the bin. Never heard another word, even though I've been back to the same car hire company on a couple of occasions.
Personally I would seek a chargeback against the hire company for trying to take money off your card.
At the very least they will have to spend sometime arguing the toss, which will cost them time which they can't charge for.

Yeah I was charged a small admin fee from the hire company but never heard anything about the actual fine. A letter all in french....meh looks like spam to me haha. Like the OP, I have no idea where it was as I was being careful.

Someone point a mark on the bumper of the hire car while it was parked on the street. Nothing was said when I returned the car so thought the speeding fine and admin charge was Karma.
The French is an online system so it would be official. I’ve even gone on there proactively to pay the fine.
The last time something like this happened to me I ended up in a filthy jail in NYC for an evening. Want to avoid that.

You should come to England next time - you would be surprised at what US drivers can get away with here. No hookers but I looked like a pimp in my grey suit with pink shirt having been pulled over in a Chrysler 300 outside of grand central terminal. There’s a lot of tourists out there with photos of me from that day. It all came down to an admin error by the NJ DVLA but it ended up in jail. The worst part was that I chased them up 3 times to confirm they had done their job to be told they had before I was put in an NYC jail.
That was. To my only brush with the law. I have a speeding ticket from the aviation division. They are not lying when they say “speed checked by aircraft”.
