Should I claim?
Discussion
Apologies all for idiocy, been driving 10 years with no accidents.
Just came out to my car to find it's been hit & runned(?) At work whilst in the car park. It's worth £500 at absolute best to a blind man so no care for the car but...
If I don't know who did it (no CCTV), what would happen if I claim?
9 years protected no claims if it helps.

Your car would be repaired/written off, and it would be taken into account when quoting in future. Absent any evidence of someone else's vehicle being involved (I.E. with sufficient detail to be able to claim from them) then you're going to be claiming against your own policy. People will be along (oh look, one already has been!) to say you'll have increased premiums. It does usually happen that way - but sometimes it does not. Either way it's not a favourable detail when you're obtaining insurance, although impact on premium varies based on a massive multitude of factors.
Problem is always at insurance renewal time with the question "claims or losses" as you have suffered a loss.
Assuming you have an excess, it won't be worth claiming anyway. I would rather forget about the car and any contact with the insurance company rather than any conversation about it and having to lie at renewal time.

Insurance companies work in mysterious ways, sometimes you loose sometimes you win.For sure if you make a claim your next premium will go up,but it may not be much?
Guy next door had an old Toyota "£500 banger". Someone put a big dent in the rear quarter panel,he made a claim and they wrote it off. He got a cheque for £1200,kept the car,it passed the MOT and he carried on using the car without doing any repairs as the dent did not affect anything other than its appearance.
