Safety recall my rights
Discussion
My daughter has received a safety recall for a possible airbag malfunction on her Nissan Note. Her nearest Nissan dealer is 100 miles from her house (200 mile round trip) they are offering her 25p / mile and £25 lunch allowance. The problem is she has a disabled son in school and has to be on call weekdays, and only drives locally. Nissan have been told this, and asked if they could arrange for collection and delivery of the car to her house in the circumstances. They have declined, saying, their offer is a once only 'goodwill gesture'. My question is, 'legally where do we stand'? TIA
I think their offer is more than fair, I don't think the manufacturer/dealer can be responsible for the personal circumstances of the owner of the car.
I would also guess that the car is somewhere between a 2005 to 2013 model. For them to issue a free recall to cars that old to address a potential fault is quite commendable. And if the owner of the car really isn't that bothered, they don't have to take it in for the recall work.

Bite there hand off and get it done, could you not lend her a car or do it for her?
Without sounding too harsh I think their offer is fair.
She chose to buy a car 100 miles away, they did not enforce it.
Most companies would not offer mileage for a recall?
She has a right to a safe car but she also has a responsibility to get it to the dealer. How far do you extend the rationale? 200 miles?

I sort of agree, but as my wife and I both work full time, and it's difficult. Just wondered how we stood. ThanksShe chose to buy a car 100 miles away, they did not enforce it.

Having read the recall info; I would just get it done by whatever means !!
Taken from a google of 'Nissan airbag recall':
THE PROBLEM
Takata, who supplied Nissan with airbags for the models listed below, has advised Nissan that these airbags may develop a fault over time.
In the event of an accident, the airbags may inflate with such extreme force that parts of the airbag unit could shatter firing metal fragments into the cabin.
In such circumstance these metal fragments could cause severe injury to you and/or your passengers.

I too have that recall for my old Avensis. Toyota offered to collect the car, drive my wife to work etc..., but say the work only takes about an hour or two so I can just book it in for a Saturday morning and wait if I want.
So without wishing to sound harsh, perhaps try working out the solution to the problem like an adult that bears some responsibility for living 100 miles from the nearest dealer, and not acting like an over-privilidged child. They are offering to pay mileage and even to pay for your lunch, which I suspect is a lot more than they have to. They probably can't spare staff to drive hundreds of miles for each of 1000s of recalls or they'd go bust.
Grow up, take a day off and stop moaning about legal rights.
Or book it in for a Saturday and sit, wait and read a book like I probably will.
