Been a numpty - what's likely to happen?

Expecting a flaming, so give it your best shot, but hopefully I’ll also get some helpful answers as well.

Been a bit of a numpty this morning on my commute, approaching the left turn I need to take I can see flashing blue lights a few yards back, so slow down and turn in cautiously. Police car parked up and as I'm passing I realise about 100 yards further up the road there's more police cars. Policeman waves me up and gives me a minor bking through the car window for ignoring the road closed sign (I hold my hands up I didn't see anything), tells me it's a ticket-able offence and then sends me on my way.

Simple question - what can I expect? A quick search suggests it might come under code TS40 (Failing to comply with direction of a constable/warden) which is 3 points and a fine. Any idea what level of fine? Or any chance of a driver awareness course instead?

I would have thought beheading minimum, possibly with a bit of flaying first if he’s in an especially happy mood. Your car will of course be crushed (possibly with you in it), and then the cars of all your family and friends. They will then torch your house, and just to be safe the houses of anyone else on your street. Only then when the entire area is a smouldering wreck and you have long since been hung up outside the courthouse as a warning to others, will a small envelope land on your slowly smoking front doormat saying please don’t do that again.

Agreed. They obviously had an important operation going, and you just blundered in.
Worst case scenario, is he refers to you as 'some half asleep bloke on autopilot this morning' when drinking a coffee with colleagues on his break.

He has probably already forgotten what you look like.

Didn't take any details or give me any ticket/form. Just your typical (and justified) sarcastic copper question as to why I ignored his road closed sign, me going white as a sheet and apologising, then him telling me it's a ticket-able offence and sending me on my way. All over in about 30 seconds.

Obviously I'm hoping nothing more will come of it, but I also assume somewhere my reg was caught on camera so I might expect an early Christmas present in the post...

You could be due compensation as the policeman was mean to you when it was their fault for stressing you out with their flashing blue lights.

This. Sounds like he had other things to occupy him, and you were just a minor annoyance.

I'm deeply disappointed by this, at the very least he should have pulled you out of the car, given you a full and brutal body cavity search in the middle of the road, bummed your dog, smashed your rear doors in, hammered frozen sausages into your bonnet, breathalysed you with his truncheon, dominated the kerb and thrown cans of RedBull at you all while filming it with a can of custard in his hand!!!

How did you manage to miss the: "Road Closed" sign?

Round our way, both the Council and the Police put their "Road Closed" signs slap bang in the middle of the lane, so you would have to deliberately drive round the sign, using the oncoming traffic's lane, to continue on the road.
