ive purchased 4 stair gates from Aldi, seperate transactions, but all this year. I havent got the receipt, the items are branded Aldi though. The gates are dangerous, my 18 month old just leans on them and they open. The only proof of purchase I have is my Amex statement but this doesnt show the items as I have purchased other goods at the same time. The store are not very helpful and say they can only refund me for the price the item is now. It comes up as 99p, I paid £16.99 each. They say they can only go back on their system 6 weeks to do a check and cant go back any further. Any advice. Apart from keep your receipt! I thought proof of purchase was a bank or credit card statement?
Have you tried asking them politely on Twitter? I would imagine mentioning baby gates and children falling through them at will might be something they want to be seen responding to fairly quickly.
Argos sent out a recall notice (by email) on a baby gate we bought about 2 years ago and when we took it back they didn't require a receipt to refund (though of course, being on the email list was proof enough).

If they are not fit for use, that would be my attack. Just check that your doorways are the correct size.

I'm sure they'll refund without quibble, the issue is the OP has no proof of the price he paid and they're shown as 99p now.HotDeals has a thread where they (may not be same gate) were £3.99
We bought a couple of these as well and they are absolute sh*te. Not only, as you say do they fall open, but the middle (opening) section pulls straight out of the outer section with very minimal force. At least 50% of the time when opening it comes apart. This has been solved with a cable tie for now. I contacted Aldi support (twice now), but haven't heard anything back either time. Bloody frustrating!
Must be annoying, but what do you expect without receipts? Admittedly, I'm very lax with keeping receipts, but I also would not expect to be able to return something without it.
And my kids are older than to need stair gates, but I'm not sure I'd trust a stair gate that was that cheap. The ones I used on the stairs when we had toddlers were screwed into the wall and bannister and/or door frame. I'm pretty sure they cost more like £30+ each too.

How can one guy have so many consumer rights issues and still never learn that it is your expectations that are too high.

Buy cheap buy twice? Neff dishwasher broke this week, the Bosch lawnmower has also broken. If something is broken then it's normal to expect it to be fixed. Except it's not broken you just no longer think it's good enough, yet you bought 4 of them on separate occasions.
