Rear light not working but pulled for speeding 76

Yesterday early drive (4am) to work.
Get in car and it tells me my indicator is not working and brake light failed. I couldn’t see well to change it so decided I will do it later.
Going down the motorway I saw a police car and thought ah dam they will probably pull me for the rear light.
I did get pulled so was ready to explain why my light was out. The officer over asked me what the speed limit was? 70. Then he said why were you doing 76? License please. Told me to slow down this isn’t a raceway if we catch you again we will prosecute. Make sure you build up speed on the hard shoulder before you indicate to move over. At this point I told him my indicator wasn’t working. I thought this was best in case he watched me then pulled me again. He said he hadn’t noticed it out sort it out later.
Will I get a NIP come through for it?
As I understand it you have 14 days to get lights fixed if pulled over.

There is no NIP required for defective lights.
You are thinking of the Vehicle Defect Rectification Scheme but you've had no paperwork from the officer so I would say that's also the end of the matter. Don't forget to get them fixed.

More likely wanted to see if he’d been drinking (4am). Disappointed you weren’t so Speeding was just his way of feeling important. Can’t ever be wrong can they. Always got to have the last word. Also admitted to some lights being out.

Strange attitude to have really.. knowing your lights are defective and drawing attention to yourself by speeding as well?
If a talking to about the lights (which the OP knows were defective) and the speed (that the OP admits doing) qualifies as “being wrong” then I don’t know what being right is?

Or he was doing his job and giving the bloke a kick up the arse for speeding just because they don't normally take action for a fewmph over doesn't make it legalMB140 said:

You can be issued with vehicle defect rectification scheme ticket (VDRS) which means you have to provide evidence of it being fixed within 21 days (at least in my force), but if you get stopped again before it's fixed you can be fined.
