Speeding fine from Italy

A mate of mine has recently received a speeding fine from the Italian authorities (he was driving a french-registered car at the time) three and a half years after the alleged incident took place. It is 600 or 700 euros.

Anyone know if there’s a time stipulation for the authorities to issue like there is here? Three and a half years is kinda taking the pee.

Reckon he’ll have to suck it up?

Which made me think - we are leaving the EU in a few weeks, so will the sharing of DVLA information continue to Johnny Foreigner or will we now get a free pass to blast through France after the 31st?

I would imagine cars from the U.K. will get an instant 1000 euro fine for any infringement and you’ll be escorted to the cash machine to pay it.

Dont think they can enforce it , I believe they have to issue it within 360 days?

No time limit based on my exp.

Ignore & subsequently probably get a fishing exped letter from a UK based debt recovery crew......the most common lot are liverpool based, i can't recall their name offhand. Unpaid 'fines' are sold on by hire companies & the like, debt recovery chancers pick them up for peanuts & then send a letter or two out threatening you with death & rabies. I downloaded a cease & desist harassing me template & they stopped bothering me.

You have a right to a detailed breakdown of the 'offence, in your native language & the right to not admit to anything (!! ;-) )
Apart from some faffing with initial requests from the It side of the hire company a few months before they sold the 'debt' on it was a relatively painless process to get it chinned off.
