Siting of safety cameras.

I was under the impression that speed / safety / cameras were supposed to be sited at accident blackspots, not long straight straight stretches of road.

They used to be blackspots only when they first came out to placate people and then when we got used to them they put them anywhere they like.

They don't HAVE to tell you where they are, they don't HAVE to have to be at an accident blackspot and they don't HAVE to be yellow (they say they all should be, but a grey camera is still legal).

Lincolnshire for instance have a map on their website, but I have seen a few mobile units in other locations not on the site. They are clear on the expectations set upon them, but also that not sticking to them is no defence for the motorist.

Anyone local with even an ounce of common sense knows to slow down there as it's one of their favourite spots. One can therefore draw their own conclusions as to who was in charge of the royal brain cell at the time

Yes it was. The governement even said about it when they first started to appear as I explicitly remember saying to my dad, when people get used to them being around at blackspots, they will be deployed everywhere. I was correct.

I think you are mistaken.

The reason fixed some cameras are no longer sited within a certain distance of locations with high KSI statistics is largely because of funding changes which were implemented around 2007.

Prior to that, siting guidance based on accident statistics had been in place since cameras began to be rolled out in the early 1990's.
