I was just (an hour ago) travelling out of London on the A40 in convoy with 3 work mates.

We were making good progress (about 90) when the other two lads decided to pick up the pace...I hung back just in case

Sure enough they went blasting passed a cop car (canine unit) who was stopping someone else but he gave chase.

They both assumed he was busy and they continued up to 125+ with the cop a few hundred yards behind them.

One of them had a faster car than the other, and the guy behind got pulled over and told off and let go!

He is about 20 and obviously comes from 'a good' family, and was polite to the Officer etc but he was obviously racing, and the cop knew he was doing 125, there must be a good reason for that type of leniency..he is one lucky bastard. He could have been looking at jail for that kind of effort!

As you were so close to Northolt, the cop may well have been distracted by five airliners with fighter escort.

If you have been on this site before you will appreciate that for the offence of speeding corroboration is required.

Plod and dog in vehicle. But how can you get a dawg to give evidence?????????

Less traumatic under cross examination IIRC

I have heard the BIB on here recently saying that the eye witness statement of a solitary BiB is all they need to prosecute for speeding!

Why do the Bib bother chasing you and bollocking you if they know there is bugger all they can actually do anyway?

Can I suggest that when incidents like these occur people do not post the real location.

It only takes one speed-kills freak to decide to make a formal complaint about how officers seem to be ignoring excess speed.

We don't want to make the BiB's job harder than it already is.

Speeding is just one string to my bow!

Why is the person speeding?
What else are they doing?
What is their attitude like?
What.....?
What.....?
What.....?

Ahhhhh yes! That will do nicely thank you .

Sometimes discretion is (or was - is it still?) used, I got pulled over for a 'high' speed about 4 years ago by 2 Trafpol in a Volvo traffic car (equipped with video), although he did say that they had no proof of my speed (as they were unable to keep up with me) however surely even without video the 2 trafpols word would have been sufficient to nick me - and his 'guesstimate' of my speed wasn't far wrong .
Anyway I was putting no-one at risk and had slowed down to 30 in the built-up area where they finally caught up with me and got away with a good old fashioned bollocking, 'scraping-off-the-road' lecture and a producer.

You would't get that from a scammer!!

I would happily buy those cops a or three but would hope that on the way home the from the pub and bursting for a pi55, that I didn't see a scamera operator on fire, as I wouldn't want to injure myself by holding it in too long!

hmm, are canine units usually in Ford Focus estates?
Back on Xmas day I was doing between 120 to 130 mph on near deserted motorways, had one of those use the lights and come up from a distance (I slowed down as soon as I saw the lights far behind) and the guy let me off without so much as a stop.

Sounds like he wanted to just have a word, there's no point giving points/fine to somebody who knowns he's being a pratt, won't stop him being a pratt - he'll have to do that himself. Maybe an example of a good/sensible plod ?

Since posting my comment I thought about it, and came up with the answer myself They may not be able to do you for the speed but there could be something else.

Not unless the lawyer defending you is akin to a cabbage.

Similar thing happened to me. 133 in a 70, then 110 in a 60, caught me doing 28 in a 30, dropping to 20 passing a children's playground. He gave me a massive bollocking, but let me off because of my care and attention in the built up area.
