Avg speed over distance (100 miles+) thread
Discussion
Let's see the on board read outs from some of your epic long distance drives, where you had the wind in your sails and made good progress.
Don't forget to add a pic, make/model of car (PU info too!) and the start/finish points.

Don't bother with high MPG figures... save that for the Greta thread.

Sorry, no photographic evidence, as it was over 12 years ago...
I did Filton near Bristol (Rolls Royce) to Liverpool Airport (180 miles) in 1h45m hours in my old e34 M5 - including a diversion via the M48 due to overnight M5 closure for roadworks. 103mph
It was very early morning though (left about 2:30am) - and I did it at about 20mpg, sitting mostly at about 120mph on the motorway and slowing for some roadworks and taking it easy for the first/last few miles due to built-up areas.
Probably doesn't count as it was in Germany...but have also done the 260 miles between our offices Garching (Munich) to Wiesbaden (Frankfurt) in 2h15m in the same car - and I was much less worried doing it over there, as it was a Sunday morning and I wasn't the sole car on the road for long periods. 116mph
Whilst I know the Z4MC would do the same thing, I don't think it would be as comfortable as in the armchair-like alcantara & cloth seats of the M5.
My regular trip now from Liverpool to Brentford on Monday evening regularly takes 3h to do the 210 miles - so exactly 70mph - but there are miles of SPECS-monitors 50mph roadworks on the M6 (and have been for the last effin' 10 years). The return trip unfortunately takes an extra hour so 52mph

A long, long time ago (probably 1995) i manged to drive from Junc 12 of the M40 (Gaydon) to Junc 26 of the M6 (Leyland).in 1hr 44 mins. It's 138 miles and I averaged 95mph in a rover 214 SEi (BRG colour probably helped the speed).
I think it's actually 79mph.You've divided by 1.44 hours or 1h26m or 86 mins.
Should be divided by 1.75 hours or 1h44m or 104 mins.
I might have managed substantially better than this - maybe - Christmas day (night) can be amazingly conducive to making progress.
If it wasn’t for the 40 stretch on the A14 near Cambridge & the Lincs. Avg Spd cameras on the A1 and the Hadecs on the M62, I could get a much larger number.

I’ve managed Schiphol > Eindhoven in 40 min before - ok - you have to do 130 through the section to Utrecht, but there’s no cameras after that, and from den-bosch past Best into Eindhoven is virtually a straight line.

Another one from many years ago, so sadly no pics. 52 miles in 22 mins somewhere nondescript in Germany. The car was a Kleeman SLK55AMG with 600 brake or so. We were travelling back to the UK from the Kleeman factory in Denmark where the mods had just been done. Never did work out the average exactly, although it's obviously something ridiculous around the 150 area. We came out of the hotel after breakfast and just tagged onto a bunch of commuters all sitting on the limiter. Great days, sadly unlikely to be repeated.
