Over the top force in arrest?

I appreciate a lot may have gone on before this video starts (it appears he stole a vehicle and is wanted to go back to prison) and the guy may have a history of violence or resisting arrest.....but....you need to take each situation as it comes and it seems a bit over the top in this instance IMO.
Given that he went down voluntarily and appeared to present no danger, why not give him a couple of seconds more to voluntarily put his hands behind his back so he could be cuffed?
Once they started getting on top of him it is only natural for his body to try and curl up to protect himself - which in then turn means the Police have to hit him to force his body into the position they want. Plus the big officer with his knee pushing on the guys head.
I note some people online saying that the fact he has run from them already justifies them going in hard because before that t point he had not 'surrendered' - but legally I am not sure that is correct.
Whether he DESERVED a beat down I am sure is a matter of personal opinion.
Unsurprisingly, it is not doing good things for the Police's image

Impossible for us to say if it was necessary to use that force or not as we don't have the full information about it.

Was the car took by force, any suggestion he had a weapon, previous markers for fighting police etc? Who knows.
There are loads of possible reasons for why he was dealt with like that, its impossible for anyone here to know what those bobbies were told about him before they got to him and justify it. One of those reasons could be he just got a kicking and it'll come out in the wash (referral made I see)

Except the Asian peodophile gangs that the police turned their backs to for many a year and judges handed out pathetic (if any) sentences. I have zero sympathy for the criminal above, too many people cry about human right stuff etc In my eyes as soon as you break the law then you loose your rights. What about the person who’s car he stoles rights? A swift baton to the face and throw him in the back of a van straight back to jail. If prisoners weren’t so well treated/protected maybe they wouldn’t commit so many crimes.

The problem I suppose is twofold
1- whether what they did to THAT guy was OK
2 - what they might do to you or anyone else who may or may not be guilty of anything
I very much suspect if it was not recorded then you would get 3-4 officers say they needed to take the guy down and used their training to do so and that would be the end of it.

Think about how annoyed you would be dealing with someone who has been caught doing the thing you’d previously caught them doing 10 times. Oh and they’re a burglar to boot, and who knows what else.
Zero sympathy. If you don’t want to be treated like a criminal, don’t be a criminal.
