Possible Squatters... or..

Strange one..

We’ve bought a house which we’re planning on redeveloping, it’s been lying empty for a few weeks and obviously it will be a long term job to get planning etc.

I set up one camera as a quick solution to keep an eye on it and this afternoon got an alert with the below showing -

They look like squatters looking at the place to me - it’s a big old house in 20+ acres so isn’t overlooked by anyone.

Any idea why they would film themselves? Am I just being paranoid and it’s actually some house to house guitar playing service...

A friend’s daughter has a hobby of photography inside old derelict/ ruined houses. So far I don’t think she has been challenged. No forced entry but through doors/windows/holes in walls.
Besides her there was also a local photography group who did similar and posted photos online.

I'm not so sure. If they were squatters surely they'd be carrying some possessions rather than a guitar. And bloke number 2 looks too well dressed to be a squatter in my opinion.

I'd have thought urban explorers but the guitar does it for me, I vore squatters. But the other guy seems to be filming, do squatters normally fim themselves?

Should have added - they managed to get a door open that led through to a side door which then went through to a door into the house and kitchen. Which means they didn’t actually break into the house but did leave a door open - the weird thing is that I hadn’t managed to open that door myself - even with keys.

Unfortunately tonight I didn’t have the house keys on me so couldn’t go inside to check - also had a torch with a low battery and no other lights up there.

Thanks - hoping it’ll be a good project and can turn it into something special. Was thinking about doing a thread on it - although I’m as useful as a dead monkey when it comes to renovations so won’t be claiming any of the work as my own!

The house was apparently built in or around 1930 and hasn’t really been touched since then, the land gives it the potential and definitely looking forward to having a decent garage for the first time in my life! I’ve been in envy at some of the garage threads on here.

I would get signs up that it is a criminal offence to squat.

Get some other signs up, private land, big dogs loose and proper CCTV.

Yes, that will definitely stop the squatters. What with them being sticklers for the rules, and all...

''Squatting in residential buildings (like a house or flat) is illegal. It can lead to 6 months in prison, a £5,000 fine or both.''

Make them aware it is not a commercial property and they will move on, it is a criminal offence, so the police will remove and arrest them for a residential squat. They know the law well, probably why they gained access and left, along with the filming to show they have not cuased damage etc.

Property like this, it is worth getting in some tenents, do it as a monthly hoiday tenacy to stop them trying to overstay, and you have someone there to keep people at bay. Houses like this will attract the scum.
