Paint issues with used car

It was a Mclaren.
IIRC 4.5 years old.
Paint colour issue which wasn't noticeable when he bought it but is now,
Owned it for just under 6 months so wondering what his rights were.
So if you see a Mclaren with panels in assorted shades give it a wave as it's the OP.

Yep, pretty much that.

But since I was being told it would "polish out", and that it's 5 years old so what was I expecting? - I decided it was easier to delete the post.
It's a car I've owned under 6 months and paid 6 figures for - so surprisingly, I thought I might have some rights when the paint appears to be different shades on some panels. Albeit on a colour which does shift under different light / angles, so not always easy to be sure.

It is common for used cars to be accident repaired. You won't have any comeback if it's only issues with the paint.

Polishing won't make the paint change colour if it's a few shades out.

Not trying to rag on you OP but how on Earth have you not noticed this a) before you bought it and b) until 6 months into owning it?

If it’s as bad as you claim then surely you would’ve seen it as soon as you gave it a good wash, which surely you must’ve done at least once?

It isn't just used cars that get repaired.

Many fresh out of the box brand new ones have had a bit of paint.

Once you get to 5 years old it's really not that unusual to have had some paintwork.

Have you hpi'd it to check for accident damage?
It may have been damaged though and not recorded..

How many times.....

HPI only has markers for write offs, not general accident damage or repairs.

Exactly. Cat c or d (as it would have been the then) is accident damage/stolen recovered ect.
No it won't show up for damage if it wasn't a write off but still worth an hpi check.

sounds like a repair, pearlescents are apparently a nightmare for matching as it will apparently depend on the angle they're sprayed or so i was told.

same paint same gun applied in a different way will change tthe way the colours flip

Surely you know by now that you will always get a heap of offensive or negative replies to any topic, yet will also get some good ones if you stick it out.

Deleting after a mere handful of replies is not productive.

To answer some of the replies, and bring the thread to a conclusion:

Yes, I did HPI the car - nothing recorded.

How did I not notice when I bought the car? I think it's got more noticeable in recent months - but it also depends on the light. It's a colour which changes dramatically based on how bright the light is, and what angle the light is. Under bright sunlight, it looks perfect - under some other light, it doesn't.

Yes, it's a 5 year old car - but since it's pretty much impossible to get it repaired at a non-approved bodyshop (McLaren don't even release the paint codes) if it had been in an accident and repaired, there would be a record of it being done.

In any event - McLaren disagree with those of you who think I'm being unreasonable to expect this to be corrected. Today, they have confirmed that their approved bodyshop will respray the areas of the car I'm concerned about as a goodwill gesture. I'm pleasantly surprised - I started this thread to see what my options were if they said no. Fortunately - I no longer need to know that.

Surely they'll have to paint the whole car?

Doing just areas isn't going to work with a flip paint that is so hard to get right.
