Cancellation with less than a week left on insurance
Discussion
I would get in touch with your insurer citing that you're insured for commuting and as such should not be penalised for doing so - I would argue that their changing of this measure is unfair as a result. If you were travelling socially at that time I would say they could argue their point, but travelling at that hour as a commute is entirely different.
They may back down, or document at least that they will overrule that decision. The very least you have an answer from them.

If I had more than a week left on my policy then I would get in contact with them to explain my situation but as I change policies next week to a policy without a black box and for over £100 cheaper than I don't feel there's any point at this stage. I was always getting rid of the black box anyway, not just because of this new scoring system
I'd suggest you get in touch with your insurance company asap. The last thing you want is to have to answer "yes" to the question "have you ever had insurance cancelled" when applying for car insurance for the rest of your life.
This has the potential to cause you very substantial issues in the future.

So you’ll declare “Yes” to the question “have you ever had insurance cancelled?” forever because you have a new policy starting next week? That seems a little shortsighted, but ok. I suppose it’ll only be a problem starting next year
