You’re right. They’re wrong. Won’t help with pulling the dents and damage out of your car though. I’d go in the right hand lane on approach and take either the middle or right lane of the road to the right. Reduces the chances of any coming together.

I would take the right lane. Then if heading for the A201, take the middle of the lanes on the right hand section. It depends on where you are going after. If continuing on the A201, then what I have said gives no disadvantage. If both lanes indicate to A201, but the left hand lane always gets you in trouble, why take it? You also risk getting pushed, or drifting into the cycle lane/route. The driver following the red route, assumes that you will be peeling off to the left. There are two lanes at entry, and they lead to five further lane options. So left lane for 1 &2, and right lane for 3,4,5.

The reason for taking the left lane is that the right lane is usually backed up for a fair way. I assume most people think that the line the red car is taking is the correct line for the A201, hence they dont go into the left like I do and a lot of traffic is heading onto the A2N.

You're both right, right hand lane would be more sensible given the amount of unobservant drivers I'm coming across. I just wanted to check I wasnt being stupid myself.

To be honest, I think the standard of driving and observation in London in general is just very low.
So I'm not sure just because the masses keep ignoring the road markings, it makes it the appropriate choice.

I just wanted to make sure I wasn't having my first episode of road marking idiocy myself.

Since I'm not, I'll take my chances and keep saving myself a minute or two. You can laugh at me when I'm in a non-fault accident and my premium goes up.

You take your chances, you live with the consequences.

Just as long as my understanding of road markings hasnt failed me, thats all that matters for now.

Road markings get covered up at busy times/areas - and others ignore them.
Go with the flow (unless you can outrun it!).

You're right. They're wrong. But based on my own experience of similarly marked road layouts drive defensively and expect (and allow space for) the other driver to do something stupid. Better to yield to an idiot than to take a hit on your insurance because, while it wasn't your fault, you're now "statistically a higher risk".

Just to add, you're right, they're wrong. The two long and one short dashed white line is the big clue. Personally i'd go up close and fight for the space, but I drive a 15 year old Beemer that puffs blue smoke on start up on a good day. So......

I don't see what they think they're gaining here? The A201 is accessible but both lane 1 and 2, so why does it matter?

Yes I did feel fairly confident with this, but the amount of people just blindly crossing into 'my' lane either in front or behind me was making me question myself enough to want to run it by some other drivers. Which I've now done.
