Changed jobs, moved City and now I have no job.
Discussion
Hello. I’ll try to keep it as short as possible. Basically I’ve been trying to get out of my job for quite some time and had interviews as well as a job offer starting from next Monday. The problem is that I rented a room through an agency and minimal tenancy agreement is 6 months, but I’ve been told today that now I have no job for the foreseeable future due to the virus we all know about.
My question is: Does a tenancy agreement have a cool down period like credit agreements do? Basically what I’m trying to do is to get out of the contract with losing as little money as possible. Because the location is in Oxfordshire and I realised that I can get a lot more job through agency where I am at the moment (Notts).
Thanks

I’d have thought if you told the landlord there’s no way you would be able to pay as you’ve lost your job, after seeing those programs on TV where it takes months to get you out with no recovery of lost rent (and a trashed property half the time) they’d be delighted to rip the contract up. Especially with the government saying they can’t evict non-payers for 3 months. I know I would if I had a rental property.

As a landlord of various properties in the uk myself this is exactly what I would do. I would be delighted you had told me and not moved into a flat you couldn’t pay for, especially in today’s circumstances.Forums | Speed, Plod & the Law | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
