20mph painted on road. 30mph signs

All around London and the surrounding areas I've noticed in the new 20mph zones there are still numerous 30mph signs, as well as 20mph, painted on the roads.

Will it be a winning argument in court to point out, with time and date stamped photos, that the "sign said 30 gov"?

It's my understanding that a sign "trumps" painted road markings, So 30 is fair game!

Whichever one has a red circle around it is the one to observe legally. My guess is that's the 30. Which means the 20 is advisory and not mandatory, although possibly sensible.

The public info broadcasts I heard on London radio state that TfL have changed all ULEZ/Congestion zone London roads to 20mph - I would err on the side of caution and stick to the lower limit personally.

I'd just do 20. How much faster are you going to get anywhere doing 30 in London?

20mph is quite enough in cities & most towns. With satellite monitoring, a Big Brother world & obligatory engine governors one day soon you will have no choice so better get used to it now. Just as we are all going to have to adjust to a new way of life in the current crisis AND after.

It may well be irrelevant but I agree it’s the way it will be.
