I've forgotten the term used for taking notes of events preceding a court hearing. Judges allegedly view them as very telling and helpful with regards to the case but I cant remember the specific term. Hope I've made clear what I am asking.

Do you mean notes taken at the time of, or very shortly after, the thing that happened, rather than much later?
If so, Google says:
"Contemporaneous Notes are notes made at the time or shortly after an event occurs. They represent the best recollection of what you witnessed."
I couldn't spell contemporaneous, so I had to google it
