Likelihood of awareness course with current points?

Evening all,

Having a good read around I’m getting conflicting information regarding this. I’ve currently got 6 points (sat nav screw up, following step father to funeral situation!) - that was over two years ago. The buggers have just snapped me at 36 in a 30 so we’ll within the requirements.

Question is with the previous offence will I be offered it? Some places state no with any offence in last three years and some state whether you’ve been on a course or not on the last three years, which I have not.

The criteria will be speed (you're within the range) and that you've not attended a similar course within the past 3 years (which you state you haven't). AFAIK, no course requires the perp to have zero penalty points for attendance.

Under normal circumstances, I'd say a course would be the most likely outcome. However, with social distancing & other restrictions in place, I would think a fixed penalty is more probable.

I have seen announcements that courses are suspended.

Just wondering - how can your sat nav cause you to get points for speeding? Don't you keep an eye open for road signs?

One of my employees has just had his course converted to a letter saying please slow down

No fine, no points nothing.

He was doing 46 in a 40 on the M25 about 8 weeks ago.

He doesn't mention the previous 6 were for speeding.

Thank you chaps, very helpful. The offence was days before the lock down kicked in, I’ve seen those fines being set aside but I’m not holding out for that! The offence is with Devon and Cornwall.

The previous 6 were for speeding, god awful JLR sat nav telling us we’d be 20min late for a funeral (3hr journey), caught in the 90’s whilst I was following. Even worse than that is we ended up arriving early, furthermore I never normally speed! Far too tight, cruise control to indicated 75mph. - Anyway, not an excuse an explanation.
