Is this a speed camera van?

Noticed this van whilst driving today in S/E London and thought the cutout on the back was rather odd, wondered if it may be used for traffic enforcement?

I'd say it's too old, but perhaps used to be one ?

Could also be for a different type of monitoring

Yeah, the age was the main thing that made me think it may not be one though looking it up the reg online it doesn't have any VED band attached which is strange.

Not sure what other use the window on the back would have apart from to place a camera, had a look in the rear view mirror as I went past and think it had something on the front at the top as well but couldn't be sure.

It's only done 72,000 miles in its 20 years, which is suspect.

In my limited observation of scamera vans they have the camera window on the offside, presumably to get a better sighting of victims.

There was a "safety camera partnership" which apparently caught people out by using an old builders van but 19 years does seem a bit too old!

More likely a hippy van.

Its a shonky old transit that a crusty has converted into a roadside squat hashtag yolo hashtag van life.

They probably drive it to extinction rebellion protests chucking out vast amount of pollution along the way.

That was Derbyshire in 2008. It was blue too.

Surveillance vans wouldn't have that strange cut out on them, they wouldn't want anything that makes the van look out of the ordinary, to avoid threads like this!

It'll be an ex-speed camera van.

Livery removed and flogged at auction. The low mileage would confirm this. Also note that on every MOT failure it's had the work put right. And there's no way the Police would spend time/effort/money blocking the hole back up just for the purpose of an auction sale.

Near where I live the sea front & adjacent side roads & a lovely tree shaded avenue in the shadow of a castle are littered with these sort of wrecks as well as a few rather nice motor homes. Nice alternatives to Traveller sites or city dwellers making an unnecessary journey to live by the sea or in the countryside to sit out the lock-down. Sadly there are no parking restrictions so locals are lumbered.

When they were stopped putting a wheelbarrow up against the side in the builders van, they still continued with the white camper with bronze decal panels on the side. Regularly seen alongside Ladybower reservoir after they lowered the speed limit on the A57 Snake Pass. Usually in the car park alongside several other Peugeot camper vans.
