Speed Trap Detectors, thoughts....

In light of my recent 70 in a 90 NIP, first speeding in 10 years, (see separate post for this), I thought maybe I need something like the Aguri DX2000;

Does anyone have one, or any experience of one? This looks pretty fully featured, and legal. But my minus points are the trailing power lead. And possible car battery drain Little things like that. But any general feeling or comments of these gadgets would be interesting in helping me to make up my mind whether to offload another wad of cash.

not seen a plod use a none laser hand held device for over 10 years
laser detectors are pretty much pointless, laser speed detectors fire a very narrow beam, its only on for a very short period of time whilst it takes a reading, by the time its registered by the gizmo your nicked
as for fixed sites and avg speed sites waze covers them very well, and it will have 99% of mobile sites, unless your the first person to pass it
i doubt battery drain would even be measurable compared to all the electric crap most cars have now

Good reply this! Never heard of Waze I have to say. I used to have a Mini GP that had a sat nav with all the fixed cameras on it. I found this very useful on my well driven route of M25, M4, A4 and into central London. I use Waze and Spotify together, it just pauses the music for an announcement from the Waze then continues playing.Dave Hedgehog said:

I too fully recommend Waze - when coupled with Android Auto (and probably Apple Carplay) it is totally seamless.The data is crowdsourced, and relies on other Waze users indicating a mobile speed trap. My theory is that there are so many Waze users that the first few people to report a camera van will be doing so whilst the camera van is setting up, so by the time the van is actually operating it will already be shown on Waze.

How long does it flag up a mobile camera site?Obviously they are by there very nature ’mobile’. Are they self deleting after a few hours or a day or so?
Waze is excellent , I managed to report a police speed trap (an old school one with hand held gun and roadside stop ) the other day. But normally they are already up.
When you drive past it gives you the option to report it as not there , After a few people report it as missing it gets taken off . Also it will tell you of accidents, slow moving traffic, broken down cars and other hazards. Works perfectly with streaming music. If you have CarPlay is bloody brilliant . It also becomes your Satnav

I think the satnavs in France can't display speed cameras by law (I think). I know my iPhone satnav app won't. I'll agree that Waze is great. Give it a whirl, the more of us that use it the better. Not just for scamera traps but also for accurate traffic reporting etc.MB140 said:

My thoughts were laser was such a narrow beam aimed accurately at the front of the car most of the scatter would return towards the sender. I realise there must be some scatter but I thought it was too late by then.

I've been aware that Waze alerts you to mobile cameras, added by other users. I don't really use apps on my phone, but have just installed the app on to my phone (Google Pixel 3a if that makes any difference)
What, if anything do I need to do to get it to alert me to speed traps? Also, in my settings I couldn't see a way to change any notification sounds, what sound does it make, and is there a way to change this?
Do you need to be using it as a Sat Nav for it to inform you maybe?
Any help appreciated!
