National Glazier won't come repair my lock
Discussion
So i've always read this section and hoped i would never need to post - but
2 years into 10 year guarantee on "windows and doors" from a major company
. Now my back door (main entrance) won't lock. We've tried everything but alas no luck. So i tried to call the company on Sat and i was met with the same answer phone message of "We are closed - call back Mon-fri etcetc". I managed to fashion a temporary measure to stop anyone pulling the handle down but of course my insurance won't agree to this as being secure.
I tried today to be told "due to covid-19 we are closed". I've gone back to them asking if i can call out a locksmith, pay then ask them for reimbursement but not had an answer yet.
I've read the T&Cs and im covered and all it says is repairs will be made during mon-fri etcetc and not on weekends.
So am i within my rights to get a 3rd party to fix AND THEN ask for them to reimburse me - and what are the chances of this and where do i stand legally?
Mod edit to remove N&S clue.

Just get your property secured and have the row later, for the sake of what, a couple of hundred quid, wouldn't you rather just have your house safe ?
Who knows what they will say ? What we can say though is if you are robbed through those doors and it comes to light, don't expect your insurer to pay out.
If you had broken a window and was in this position what would you do ? Live with a hole or get someone in ?

I was just going to say the same. We were in the same boat & just got the local geezer to pop out. All sorted by tea time.TheDrownedApe said:
I've looked at the barrel but it's a new Yale sideways one and it works when I take it out.
First the posters who seem to think I would happily leave it unsecure then let's assume I've covered that and just discuss the reimbursement issues, ok.
Is the lock even covered by the 10 year warranty?First the posters who seem to think I would happily leave it unsecure then let's assume I've covered that and just discuss the reimbursement issues, ok.

A) Issue them a 'Letter Before Action' giving them a final reasonable timeframe to come and do it. State in there that you already contacted them and the dates/times.2 years into 10 year guarantee on "windows and doors" from a major company

Also say that its a security risk and if robbed you will hold them liable for negligence.
If they don't fix then fix yourself and bill them. If don't pay after reminders, then do small claims online.
B) Find out the CEO's email. If a national company then should be easy to find- there are websites that list them. Email him.
Also tweet/facebook the company and the CEO.
For an external door, 2m is easy to maintain so Covid is rubbish. Chances are that they have furloughed staff and using the ones they have on new jobs!

This, 1 screw and a wiggle with the key is all it takes to change a euro cylinder. The hardest part is measuring the old one and that's not rocket science.
