Local Resident playing loud music for others! Legal?

So one of our local residents has taken it upon himself to decree himself the be all and end all of cheering people up during lockdown.

He does this by setting up his DJ booth on his driveway and then once a week he blasts everyone within a 2 mile radius with his idea of good music(it really isn't)

Is this legal? I believe the music isn't played live and it's a pre-recorded set that is just set off and then the DJ just sits and has a drink with the selection of other neighbours who have equally bad tastes in music(think of your worst cheesy 80's and 90's nightmare music!!)

I've tried working my way through the various rules on street parties and playing of music but I am not sure. It seems like because the sole purpose of the 'event' is to play music then it may need a Temporary Events Notice but i'm unsure.

It may come across as me being a bit of a killjoy but the music is so loud for where we are(300 yards away) that even my profoundly deaf girlfriend finds the music obnoxious!

Have you tried asking him to stop? Have you asked other neighbours if they agree with you?

Call the PRS. They will probably give home more hassle than the council or Police. Unless he is paying for a license for public performance of music

Yep and as far as he is concerned because there are people who support him doing it it'll carry on no matter what anyone else thinks

Before we take your side can you give us some examples of music played please.

I believe he is a part time DJ so may well have one but I will see if they have some kind of reporting line I can use

Report to your council Environmental Health department. They have rules on noise levels and can confiscate equipment.

Not that far! he's a good 300-400 yards away and the music is still really clear! Today another neighbour fired up his petrol lawnmower a few door down from us and I could still hear the music clear as day!

You can pretty much hear the music anywhere in the village!

I was just posting here to see if there were some other rules he might be violating other than noise.

Don't think they really bother working outside the hours of 9-4, probably 3 on a Friday.
Unfortunately the ops problem is at a weekend.

Lol, is this a wind up? A local village? I hear a DHL plane landing every morning at 5 am. Can't you ring a few church bells to drown him out? Luxury sheer luxury and for just 2 hours and maybe people are happy? Could be a village fete in the offing if you work with bob marley? Rock on Tommy.

I believe most councils run an out of hours team that turn up with the police in tow and give a warning. If it’s not heeded they come back and shut it down by taking their gear. Suggest you ring the environmental department on Monday and explain the issue and request the number of the out of hours team or ask them to attend next Sunday. Still unacceptable!

We've had about a set list of about 10 every Friday evening from someone similar. Didn't see anyone complaining or suggesting not to on the village facebook group, and wouldn't really bother me unless it was bedtime for the kids. Stopped when lockdown was eased.

I really can’t see the problem if it’s just on a Sunday afternoon tbh, sorry!
