What ho all.
Just a quick question about driving licence renewal and covid-19 operational status.
My licence is due to expire (normal three year diabetic licence) in ninety days time.
This is the period where DVLA would normally start the process of renewal, I am not a medic or lorry driver (these are what the media say are being dealt with at the moment, I have no idea if that is true or not), but I could be classed as a key worker as I am an engineer who works on machinery that is used in many ways that are vital at the moment (packaging/medical/food processing etc).
I can't contact them by e-mail so their automatic response tells me, I can't speak to them, apparently they are busy !
I am keen to avoid the experience of a few years back when due to cuts in spending they didn't have time to do mine before my licence expired, hence I'm aware that from today we are in the ninety day period.
Any advice would be appreciated.

I was in a similar situation, (diabetic 3 year restriction) back in March. I did receive the forms from them, but found that you can now actually submit the required forms online, https://www.gov.uk/renew-medical-driving-licence.
About 6 weeks later I received a letter from them stating that all the medical checks had been carried out but I would need to supply a new photo for the license. My daughter took the pic, printed it off and sent the required photo card renewal forms recorded/registered delivery.
The day my license was due to expire the replacement dropped through the door, three months it took in total.
Long story short - you may be able to set events in motion yourself by going online, and things may take a lot longer to process due to the current situation.
