Does it become mine ?

hi all, after 33 years my neighbour has suddenly for no reason have entered into a dispute with us over the boundaries and land etc. they tresspassed have put metal fencing a couple of feet inside my land right smack up against my garage with the concrete feet on my footings. What i want to know is do I now own the fencing? I read somwhere, cant find it anywhere now i want to, that if anyone tresspasses and erects/installs anything on your land thru some obscure rule/law it becomes your property. Am i right or am i wrong. Would like to know as thinking of getting it removed as its been there for 8 weeks now amd there is no sign of the neighbour removing it...........................ta

It sounds like the neighbour thinks it's their land and you think it's yours. I'd suggest speaking to a solicitor first to bottom out the land ownership squabble.

Assuming it is your land, then I would have thought that it remains their fence on your land.

Talk to them first and try and resolve amicably. Otherwise a lengthy and protracted legal battle will no doubt ensue.

Obviously there’s a reason as far as he’s concerned. I’d try to get to the bottom of that, understand the motivation and then work out a plan to deal with it.

No it doesnt become your fence. If I park my car on someones driveway without their permission, it doesnt mean my car suddenly becomes theirs.

The cheapest and easiest way to resolve this would be to sit down with your neighbour over a cup of tea. Maybe show him a copy of your deeds and land registry, so that you can show him why the land is yours.
