Potentially buying a car that is SORN'd & not insured

I've tried a quick search and not really found the answer, so here goes:

Have the option to buy a car, which I would be going to see on Saturday.
The car is over 100 miles away so if I do buy it I would want to drive it home straight after purchase.
I obviously know that the car needs to be taxed and insured to drive away.

Does anyone have any experience of agreeing to buy a car, adding to insurance policy or short term cover and then taxing the car same day.
Obviously the insurance won't be on MID if done same day, so can;t do online. So how do you get it taxed at a post office? and will they accept an online/email insurance certificate on my phone from someone like Tempcover.

I know I'm not the first person with the dilemma, but the car is quite valuable, and getting seized for no road tax would be a big problem!

How have other people done it?

I may have just answered my own question, that the DVLA no longer check the vehicle is insured to tax it online.
Can anyone confirm?

Not sure of the the problem, the change of keeper can be done immediately online and then tax it online using the new keeper supplement. TBH I wouldn't lose sleep about tax it's really not going to make any difference, Having insurance in place is the most important, you won't get it seized for not having tax, but you will with no insurance plus 6 points and a big fine

I think tax and insure same day will be OK

As long as it hasn't been too recently sorned (I want to say the last time I sorned a car and then went to tax it shortly after, it wanted to make me wait 2 weeks for some reason)

Has it got an MOT - Isn't this still checked at Tax time as well?

Correct you no longer need insurance to get tax

Yes will need a valid MOT to get tax

Superb. Thanks guys. MOT is currently valid. Everything else I can sort online on the day.
Was worried that wouldn't be able to sort tax if insurance was checked online. Problem gone away!!

I had my Boxster sorned through MArch & April. Wanted to tax it from 1st May, but DVLA did not give m ethe option until 2 days before. Prior to that the only option was backdating to 1st April. 2 days away the option for 1st May appeared on the website, hit the button, paid and instantly taxed from 1st May. No Hassle.

I could be wrong on this, but I don't think you can (re)tax a car in the same month it has been SORNed

(or that might only apply if same RK SORNing then taxing in same month)
