Police Officer threatening to choke someone (UK)
Discussion
Another week, another report of incompetence in Britain's biggest gang.
When they're not giving eachother blow jobs it seems they're threatening to choke members of the public while restraining them.
West Yorkshire's biggest gang racket this time.... the same force who kneeled on someones neck after a Leeds match earlier this year. Time for the jacket scum to get some retraining I think.

How many bad apples before the public admit the entire policing system is a rotten fruit basket?

And as always.... We need more information to make an informed decision. It's little more then clickbate in its current form.
Oh yes, we need to context to decide whether the police should be threatening to choke people and put them to sleep, of course it would be impossible to tell that they were doing it and it was wrong from video evidence of it, wouldn't it! Jesus wept! The police have clear guidelines on what they can and can't do when restraining them, this ain't within them.

Reading the article I'm more than happy for plod to say "chill out before I choke you out"
As an aside what 'gang' would you like to see replace them - are you another one of those BLM ACAB defund the police nutters?
Really? Your happy for the plod to just randomly choke folk? As an aside what 'gang' would you like to see replace them - are you another one of those BLM ACAB defund the police nutters?
Oh yes, anybody who wants to replace a system devised more than a hundred years with a slightly more modern approach is a nutter. And yes I want to defund the police and replace them with a team of primary intervention officers who are not allowed physical contact with anybody regardless of their reasons. Allowing people in charged and aggressive situations to start manhandling people is an absolute recipe for disaster and the police to be overly violent in their conduct, so don't let them. There are other ways of getting co-operation out of people or containing them if necessary, the use of aggressive force is the worst possible solution.

Well they can use a degree of force that it results in another's death where the circumstances warrant it, so context & full circumstances is everything.
School's out.
Check.
Two officers manhandling one man is definitely not one of those situations. And choking is definitely a potentially lethal force.School's out.
Check.
The police can do no wrong league have clocked off.
Check.

What were the circumstances that led to him being detained?

What was the guy being detained for?
We don't know do we?But he clearly isn't carrying a weapon which is surely one of the few times choking someone might be remotely justifiable!
I won't support wrong doing, but equally I won't convict without the evidence from all available sources.

a) I doubt it was randomOh yes, anybody who wants to replace a system devised more than a hundred years with a slightly more modern approach is a nutter. b) giving them no (ultimate) physical force options is crazy. Suppose the person is heavily armed with knife / gun and in the process of killing people? Should your primary intervention officers withdraw to a safe distance and offer calm platitudes and cake to the suspect?
Now I agree that the police should be held to account (and we have ok systems to do this) and agree with better monitoring (bodycams, etc) and I think we could have fewer police forces... but defunding?... no thanks.

Can you explain how the handful of reported incidents among 123,000+ staff is the whole police being rotten please OP?
A handful of publically reported incidents? It's a bit like the government or any large organisation isn't it. If there's a incident a week, that like means hundreds upon hundreds every week that aren't public knowledge. We only saw this cos someone was watching, how many incidents like this are the police conducting without anybody filming them.

No it doesn’t. It means it’s convenient for people with agendas to make baseless accusations and make their own statistics up. You would need over 1200 incidents a week to even mean the majority of the police conducted themselves like this. It's a bit like the government or any large organisation isn't it. If there's a incident a week, that like means hundreds upon hundreds every week that aren't public knowledge. A polite no you can’t explain would have sufficed.
