Hit and run, no details
Discussion
Picking up the wife from the supermarket, a car in the oncoming lane sped up and swerved out to pass a parked vehicle and clipped our front end, totalling wing mirror. we put the brakes on but had nowhere to move to avoid being hit.
Pulled up and the car behind pulled in front to check we're ok etc. They saw the incident but didn't see reg of oncoming vehicle. light/mid blue corsa or clio.
Reported to 101, got a reference number. Not yet contacted insurance, reviewing docs etc at the mo.
What can I do from here?
As far as I am aware, there is no CCTV in the area.
We're buying a dashcam for future use!

~£200 new mirror, primed only, but so far for the part number I've not found many.. Electric, powerfold, indicator and heated. £175 excess.
Found lots of used from £30, not same colour but not an issue!.
On inspection, its the bulb assy and glass assy that's beyond use, the cover housing is cracked, but repairable with a bit of glue and repaint.it looks like it just came into the component parts, all clips/fixings seem intact.

Likely to cost you more in the long run going through insurance.Found lots of used from £30, not same colour but not an issue!.

Might be simplest (and cheapest) to accept there are a-holes on the loose, get the mirror fixed yourself and just put it down to experience.
Sorry to hear of the h@r.
My concern would be if notifying the police meant the insurers would be tipped off or had access to a database that said I was in an accident....cue higher premiums. And that they maybe double whammy you for not advising of the accident as we should?
Does anyone know if the insurers get access to the police database this way?

The insurance company would only get access to the Police accident report if 1. They know about the accident and 2. They are willing to pay the admin fee for the report. From memory this is not far off £200. Thanks for the comments folks, replacement mirror arrived today and I salvaged the required parts keeping the original part that attached to the door. All fixed! Took out for a test, and it shakes terribly at speed, looks like I need to tighten to door attachment - otherwise perfect!
Not seen anything posted on local media, no further leads so left at that, experience had a leant from - tools will do stupid <word> when they're in a hurry, or they simply thought I flashed my lights, bumpy road, raining so headlights on.
