Should I expect something in the post?

I drove past a marked up BMW 5 series this morning which had an officer aiming a handheld detector towards me. If I was exceeding the limit are those kinds of camera/detector relied upon to issue people with points and a fine in the post or would it normally tell Mr Police Officer in the car to pull me should they see fit?

Don't need to be stopped. If you were at 10%+2 or greater you are at risk.
Although it's very possible they would only "ticket" for a higher threshold.
How fast were you going in what limit?

No, no need to stop you at the time. Some handhelds have built in cameras these days for processing slow time in the office. A wait 14 days will tell for sure.
