A scrote just nicked a handsaw off my drive. Caught clearly on camera. Knocked on door (I was wondering if he was going to offer to flytip our waste for rubbish, couple of vans caught on camera at front of house at same time), nobody answered (although someone was in), looked around, picked up the handsaw and left.

Obviously it is a very minor crime (a handsaw is what a tenner?), but it is very annoying that these sorts of low level crimes seem to be completely consequence free. There have been a few thefts on the estate lately, and a few unscrupulous individuals taking advantage of elderly residents.
I wasn't even sure if it was worth reporting, but filled in the non emergency form, so it is at least recorded.

I phoned 101, but was told by an automated message to fill in an online form, which I have done so. Don't expect to hear from them.
I strongly suspect you were advised that you could wait to speak to someone but you might find it quicker and easier to fill in the form. A detail as trivial as the theft, so not really trivial...

Yup, posting the video and an ultra-zoomed still photo on the busiest local Facebook group would result in some amusement. Title it "WARNING THIEVES" or similar. If they are scoping out then it would actually be useful, if they are a "cheeky" local tradesman then it would be some fun drama. Await people justifying it saying "well don't leave things like that out lol" or "ffs grow up it's only a cheap saw he probably needed it for a job".But they’re all hardworking / misunderstood?
He was clearly scoping out anything of value. I’d tidy up if I were you and take crap up the dump to deter any more of their ilk
The good news is by getting (even a worthless saw) he will feel that he’s had one over on you so might feel less inclined to come back. On to the next victim

No reason it can't be processed and dealt with if the suspect can be IDed.
Wouldn't expect a press-release from the police, but an internal email can be sent asking for police officers to see if they recognise him (effective when it's a regular criminal, which he may not be).
Alternatively if you do your own FB ID that can see be valid.

Yeah I suggested the local Facebook group to my better half, as she is on it and I am not, she said: "no chance, dont want heckled, that page is brutal".CoolHands said:

Taking stuff to the dump is a pain in the arse at the moment. One trip a month, pre booked appointments etc. Plan is to get it all removed by a caged van when we have finished our project...He was clearly scoping out anything of value.
