Refund for replacement key from dealer?
Discussion
I ordered a replacement key from a dealer at the start of March and was told it would take 5 to 10 days to arrive. I needed to pay upfront because they key blade was a custom part obviously.
It hadn’t arrived after 10 days, and then lockdown came. When the dealership reopened in May I emailed asking when it would arrive, and saying I needed it soon as the car would shortly be returned to the lease company, but got no reply. I phoned in June to book my car in to get the key coded but was told it hadn’t arrived yet and was assured they would phone me when it arrived. The car was collected by the leasor in July and I no longer have it.
Finally in August I wrote asking for a refund, and magically got a call the next day saying the key was ready for me to collect. Can I insist on a refund now and progress towards the small claims court if necessary? I know that refunds aren’t typically given on custom parts and the delivery time wasn’t guaranteed, but six months for a car key is obviously absurd.
