Why will no one deal with abandoned vehicles?

My local s
tty borough (Harrow) always tries to palm off anything and everything, and same for this.
There are some local eyesores ‘advertising’ some st on the back of the parked vehicle. You know like driveways / paving etc and they put a hoarding on the back of the old parked van. Been there a few years.
I’ve occasionally try reporting them when the mot or tax is run out but it’s impossible for a number reasons
Harrow ask is it taxed. If you say no they send you to dvla (so you can’t report it as abandoned with harrow). Nicely swerved, Harrow.
The dvla appear to completely ignore your report I guess as a) if they ever did send a wheelclamping firm they would clearly not proceed once they see the state of the abandoned vehicle (no chance of them getting any money) b) perhaps they check on line records and I guess the vehicles have no owners so no one to write to / collect from c) they therefore don’t want to incur a cost of removing an abandoned vehicle which I think falls to local authorities
What to do, other than ignore? Pees me off

You can’t phone everything is website. As soon as you put untaxed it reverts to dvla. They have mastered their side-stepping skills!

I could also bore you all (so I will) - they pass MOTs by some mysterious process that doesn’t involve them moving. Like magic.

Rightly or wrongly I think it's a case of trying to pass the buck onto someone else. Firstly because this country has wrapped itself up in that much red tape everyone is scared of a comeback upon themselves and being sued and secondly it's the cost of doing something about it.
If the council were to pay a contractor to remove the vehicle they would have to store it somewhere for a defined period before they could even think about scrapping it. This all costs money, money which will never be seen again even taking into consideration that the pittance that scrap metal currently gets. So at the end of the day it'll cost us all through our council taxes.
Ultimately the blame should lie with the scumbag who left it there in the first place rather than the council/DVLA who will now have to deal with the situation eventually.

Are the vehicles on the road, where they require tax, insurance and MOT? - Or are they off the road, where they don't?
Are they on private land (possibly with the land owners permission)? - If so, there's f@#k all the council can do!
Perhaps the council don't have the spare funds to deal with them? - If that's the case, I'm sure you'll be more than happy to pay more council tax to help them out

Harrow council are really st. I moved away but my gran still lives there and is subjected to their stness. As you say, you cannot call them, everything is via their stty website, can't even get a bin emptied that they have left for weeks.
Crap all over the streets, ludicrous parking charges and enforcement, potholed roads which they then put speed humps on instead of repairing the road. Stupid vanity 20mph schemes, you've already put humps in so what's the point?

We’ve got a car parked opposite the end of our drive since Feb owned by an old lady who is now in a home 100 miles away and will never be coming out. She has no family apparently and as such we’re stuck. We have to back off our drive an odd way and reverse up our quiet close towards where the feeder road turns a corner. In my view there’s potential for an accident there. The police however, say there’s no obstruction and it can’t be removed until 2 months after the tax expires which will be next March - any ideas?

It should be straightforward to report it to the DVSA...it's not though. The only thing I can find is how to complain about is an MOT on _your_ vehicle not a "how the fAnd it’s 4 s

I once had a car parked outside my house for a long time as I was away in the armed forces. It was registered at the property, plus had tax/MOT/Insurance. The only issue was that clearly hadn't been driven or washed for a while.
Someone reported it abandoned and I got a notification that the car was to be towed and destroyed. The council confirmed they would take it unless I moved it onto my drive or out of the street. If it was parked in the street they would remove it!
What was worse was the car was actually on a concrete strip across the front of my property that was my property, not a path or right of way.
