Car rejection old car returned V5C question

I have just rejected a car I have purchased and taken my old car back.

When going to tax the old car DVLA online would not let me use the V5C details, I had to use the new keeper form details.

The garage said that they have not changed ownership, but as my previous D/D for tax was cancelled, do I have to reregister as a new owner to get the car back in my name?

If it only went into trade stock I think (stress think) you will need to register as the new owner and can then get the number of owners corrected by the DVLA but it is a manual process (as it is unusual)

What Vaud said. You will need to write to DVLA with the V5C and explain what's happened and they will remove the trade marker and reissue a V5c
