The £100 fine is just a joke, hence so many people running without a front plate (and I suspect, the OP thinks it's a joke too)
I think it should be £1000 the first time you get caught, £2000 for the second time, £3000 for the third time, £4000 for the fourth time, and so on, and so on, and so on.
Yes you'd still get the rich tw4ts in their supercars running with no from plates, but you see a lot less of the everyday kno8he4ds running around without front plates, especially if the Police pulled them over every time for the offence!
(Maybe even the OP would think twice about removing his front plate if he knew it could cost him £1000 and more for driving without it?)

The chances of being pulled for no front numberplate or indeed an illegal chavplate which has been butchered beyond recognition is virtually zero, hence the meteoric rise in the number of miscreants with this moronic and f
k the law narcissistic attitude.Interesting option to the no front plate scenario is to fix the plate onto one of the sun visors which is clearly still illegal but may appease plod especially with a certain type of car as happened to a chum recently lol.

Sticking a large, ugly, piece of white and black plastic on the front of your car really does spoil the look of many vehicles.
It’s hardly surprising that people seek to remove it.
The only people this upsets is the Police, so I don’t really know why any of you care? It’s not like it causes issues for you.

I've removed my rear plate too as the yellow clashes with the paintwork. The car looks so much better. I can't see any downsides really. It’s hardly surprising that people seek to remove it.

They should ban front number plates. Then all the chavs and scene-wes would start putting eight of them on, like mirrors on a Mod Lambretta.

Some clown near me has a povvo A-class that has the number plate on top of the dash and either the screw holes filled or glue residue removed. So far as I can see, that's the only modification to the car... Why?! Does the A-class in grandmother spec have some design details that must not be ruined by the presence of a plate?

I've never quite understood why the discrepancy between bikes and cars on front number plates.
I completely understand why bikes don't have them - mounting is difficult, and the longitudinal 'slicer' mounting on the front mudguard aka 1950s bikes is rather unsafe.
But if it's perfectly possible for society to survive and bikers to still be traced and prosecuted for offences in the absence of a front plate....why do cars still need one, and everyone seems to react as though the world will fall apart if they don't have them?
And to avoid obvious replies, I'm well aware it is the law, and I have no intention of removing any front numberplates....
