NIP advice, 102 in a 70

My sons been caught doing 102 in a 70, he's pleading guilty but has been advised by his mates to attend court.
Is that the best advice, and would he not be asked to attend if likely to be banned?

I think AGTLaw (I've just had a complete mind blank on his username!) says don't attend court. I'm sure he'll be along with his advice. I'd take it 100%.

An early guilty plea would help reduce the penalty.

Attending in person would give them an easier opportunity to ban your son. Personally, I wouldn't be there unless my attendance was ordered.

One day shy of 6 months you / he will get a court summons. That's the way they roll.

Edit - I have been banned and didn't attend so is it really the case that not attending is a good idea?

It's just unnecessary, as far as I know. I have heard from people who would know that it doesn't get you a more lenient punishment and that the best/only option is to put in a guilty plea

Im pretty certain at 32mph over the limit, and the fact it's a 3 figure sum, will mean a court summons anyway? The speed is too far over the limit than to just deal with it all by post, as a ban will be something that could be considered.

Don't go to court the Magistrates will be well pissed off.

Wasting time on a plea of guilty for a simple speeding by a noble and honourable defendant wishing to demonstrate his remorse will not impress them.

The Magistrates need all court time for serious criminal matters.

Not attending can only help the possibility of not getting disqualified, as courts usually prefer someone to be there when the sentence is a ban to prevent the possibility of them driving whilst disqualified during the time before they find out and landing themselves with a whole new world of pain

It’s 2020, so forget about getting a summons.

Also, use the makeaplea website rather than “plead guilty by post.”

If the preferred outcome is points then deal with the SJPN online.

To elect a court hearing is to avoid one of only two opportunities to dodge the ban hammer. Only idiots elect court hearings when the case can be favourably concluded without attending court.
