Does anybody use a software or company to perform driver licence checks?
This is something we want to automate. The company I have spoken with require us to download software which allows them to log in to our business computers and scanner. I'm not comfortable with this so I'm looking for any recommendations?
I'm looking to check approx. 10 licences every 3 months. I appreciate that this can be done manually with driver check codes but I need a more dependable system that keeps good records of checks.

10 drivers every 3 months doesn't sound like many.
Does a manual check also not give you an opportunity to remind them of company policy, speed limits, loading, fines, maintenance, medical, hours etc.
You check the licence while they read and sign their responsibilities. Works well for a national retailers online van fleet.

Checkmaster are the company I'm currently looking at. Seems to have become a big hassle with downloading different apps and software. They require control of our scanner which seems a faff. Chester draws said:

I'm already doing manual checks and issue driver handbooks etc. Part of my operating licence conditions are that I have a system in place which checks every 6 months as a minimum. I thought an automated system would be more watertight if we were ever audited or checked. Using a third party system might frighten potential employees away.
When the checker of an insurance company refused to use my code and asked for my NI number so they could run a check, I said a clear no.
Maybe I am in a minority but I have no faith in how companies handle data or protect it so no way would I hand 'intimate' details of my identity to a third party and largely unknown checker.
From the pov of your staff, I am sure using the code system feels much more stress free and decent.

If they fail to provide the code by the due date then they cant drive: people soon comply. If they prefer, and if you are happy doing it, they can agree to you using their NI number to access the record: it is illegal but most smaller hauliers do it and most drivers opt for the easier solution.
In my experience getting people to provide the codes takes far more effort and time than actually checking, which only takes a few minutes every 90 days. A 'no check - no drive' policy as described above will put paid to that and a couple of driver group reminder text messages takes as little time as it has taken me to type it here.
I wouldnt bother - youre adding cost and complication to something that takes little time or effort.

I wrote some software to do this in the past but if memory serves it just required entering the driving license number and then would interface with the dvla.
Part of a big expensive fleet management solution. Don't want to advertise it as even though I wrote some good software for them, the company were utterly foul

That just sounds odd. It would be an information security nightmare from their point of view. Can you post what they’ve said their requirements are?I can see that they might need access to a scanner to scan documents for the records and maybe do OCR to pull out the required details.
They should be able to explain exactly what the access they need entails, how they assure the security of any hooks they add into your environment and how they securely store your data.
Yes, we use Davis to check anybody who drives company vehicles.
If you are the Master user I believe there is a dash board you can look at that give an over view. Individual users can register to see their licence validity, categories & endorsements.

The Team Viewer bit is the ‘remote access’ is likely so that they can connect and see your screen during install to make it go smoothly.
The Team Viewer bit wouldn’t bother me, they can only connect when you let them (you give them a Pin for a session).
The software bit would be though - could be anything.
