Driving Without Insurance - Over 10 Years Ago

I live in Ireland (Republic of), and in the late 00s lived in Bristol for a number of years.

Whilst living there I was detected driving without insurance. It was not done deliberately, and was a careless oversight (my then girlfriend had not added me to her policy, I thought she had). The Police Officer gave me a producer, I attended the local station and admitted that I had driven without insurance. I produced my Irish driving licence. I have a distant recollection that I would be receiving correspondence.

Shortly afterwards, I moved back to Ireland. Not because of the encounter with the police but due to a complex personal situation. In the confusion of that period I completely forgot about the uninsured driving matter. The relationship ended, I sold my apartment and I just moved on. A letter never came or else arrived after I had left.

This is quite some time ago now, and I have began to wonder if this could cause a problem if I was ever stopped by UK Police while visiting or in Northern Ireland and the matter turned out to be outstanding on record somewhere.

I suppose I could just write to the Avon and Somerset Constabulary and enquire but I thought I'd ask here first. Thanks in advance for any pointers.

even if youd had a uk license youd of got done in yiur absence, got 6 points which would have long expired, so even less likely to happen on an irish license. theoretically possible for some debt collectors to pursue you for the fines maybe.

but unlikely after all this time.

It is, as PW says, practically unlikely that you will face any difficulty.

Can you not run an electronic check of your licence online, which may (may) include historical points and that?

Or somehow get that information yourself first from the registration authorities.

If that is possible and it is clear, then a decent chance it slipped through admin and was not pursued. If it was, I would have thought quite some effort would have been made to track you down.
