Ebay - Paypal scam?

Has anybody had an email from Ebay offering to make payments direct into your own bank account. This way they suggest that Paypal won't take a cut.

Looks very real and starts by asking for your dob and no doubt your bank details. I think it's a scam but it's very good if it is.

Doesn't ebay own paypal? If so then they are unlikely to be wanting to cut them out.

i believe ebay is slowly getting rid of its links to paypal so it can track payments so it may be genuine.

They have been messing about with paypal payments and on buying items a number now you make the payment to _ebay_ rather than the seller (and then presumably ebay pays the seller). As a buyer this is more grief as if you're buying multiple items if they're split between methods then you have to split your purchases in two.

Long term as ebay span off paypal in ~2015 they actually want to move away from them.

I have no idea how it works as a seller but this may be this new method. So it's not necessarily a scam

Used to, spun it off in ~2015.
