Planning Permission - Consent to display an Advertisement

Quick question for someone knowledgeable in these matters.

A planning app has been submitted for a "Consent to display an Advertisement"

What is an advertisement?

The planning app is to erect a sign stating words to the effect of "No Entry" when the area is legally accessible. It has been used by the public (locals mainly) for years.

Is a "No Entry" sign considered to be an advertisement in the eyes of planning?

Also the area where the sign is to be put up is a SSSI and RAMSAR site. Any suggestions as to how I can constructively object?

just because its been used, has no meaning, is it a legal use?

Knowing the application in question, yes the use was perfectly legal, enshrined under English law for hundreds of years.

The proposal for the sign is being made by a particular group, who use, but don't own the area, and are trying to selfishly block others from being able to use the resource, because they want exclusive use for themselves.

Absolutely. I'm impressed you sussed it. Fingers crossed we will get somewhere but to be honest this issue will run and run for many years to come.
