Running a red light

In 15 ish years of driving I'd say I've only ever run through a red light once and nothing came of it/never heard anything etc
The other day was my second such episode I ran a red light at a busy 4 way junction, completely my fault but the lights changed so quick and I was already too committed to stop and risk someone behind rear-ending me so just drove straight through (lame excuse I accept).
Heres the difference though, it wasn't my car, it was my wife's I was driving whilst she was sat in the front passenger seat. I am fully comp on my car but not a named driver on her policy.
If it was picked up by a camera what type of penalty is usually issued? I am fine to take the hit and say it was me driving as not keen to be telling porkies but from an insurance or law perspective any issues with the fact that I was driving the car rather than my wife who is the named driver on policy?
For context never been done for any speeding or traffic/road offences ever. I am hoping this won't the the first but as its a busy junction bit nervous about this one.

Wait for the wife to get a brown envelope through the post maybe. Then she can pop you down as the drive. Wait for your brown envelope, fill it in, wait for the fine/points. I think that is how it should go. But in the mean time check your policy to see if you can drive the wife's car third party, if so you can sleep sound in the knowledge.

Thanks...refreshing to see response that is black and white and says it as it is, no waffle, moral high ground or lessons on highways law.
As an aside, lesson learned...stop at red lights and do not drive through them....

Cheers, will check...no excuse really should of checked this before I drove it as I am fully aware of the horror stories you read about usually containing the bit about 'But I am fully comp on my car so assumed.....'

I ran a red light recently, completely deliberately. I had stopped at a roundabout near Winnersh just before joining the A329M at about 11pm with the stop line just in front of me. There was nobody around and the lights cycled three times without ever going green for me, so I decided that the road sensor must be faulty and made the decision to just go. But just before I was about to move off a car came up behind me and waited. I decided to wait another full cycle in case his car has triggered the sensor, but he hadn’t so I just went. He didn’t follow so I have no idea how long he sat there before hopefully making the same choice as me. I have no idea what the official rules are when lights are obviously not working!

Is there any reason to think this was a camera junction? Only a small percentage are.

I was in my wife's car with her driving when she went through a red light. Admittedly a road she didn't know with three separate sets 50m apart. The look on her face when I pointed it out as we went through was priceless. Especially as the first car at the side road was a marked police car with two cops in it. Luckily they were chatting to each other and not watching the lights.

At this point I am just assuming there was a camera as it's a fairly busy junction...I guess will have to wait and see...I'm just trying to prepare myself for the worse case scenario e.g: £100 fine and 3 points if that's a fairly standard penalty for this type of offence

I posted about my speeding ticket recently - don't worry, I'm sure the pack will descend on you in the morning!

Hopefully it'll just be £100 and three points, which is what I got.

Could it not also be a course you get offered? I'm fairly sure it can be but it's 3rd hand info not my own experience.

Hmm that’s weird indeed. I would have expected their web site map to show the cameras.

Install Waze then in that case

As you have fully comp and your wife's car was insured under her own policy, the odds of you being covered to drive it are high.

All you can do really is wait but if you are contacted, just go with it and don't offer any more information than you are asked to give. (That is, if not asked to prove insurance.....don't!)

I had a look on Waze but wasn't able to see if there was a camera at the traffic lights.

I will wait and see if the letter arrives, based on other threads where someone received similar NIP or penalty it seems to come through within a few days though I was under the impression it could take upto 14 days (working?) In total.

Subject to a couple of statutory exceptions, a NIP issued by post is required to be served within 14 [calendar] days of an alleged traffic light offence.

I know the junction, to a degree.

I'm trying to think if there ARE cameras there.

I believe there are, but it's been a while since I've used the junction. Though if the Waze app says there are, I'd be inclined to go with that.

I presume you don't know if there was any flash?

Edit - Google Maps shows a couple of grey red light cameras, one from each direction on the A24, which is what I thought.

So you'll have to see how lucky you are.
